Bundles of shingles and the accessories that go with them. Enter the roof area (or squares) and the edge lengths you know — leave the rest at zero.

Starter (≈110 ft/bundle)—
Hip & ridge (≈25 ft/bundle)—

Synthetic underlayment (10 sq/roll)—

Accessory coverage varies by product (starter about 100–120 ft, cap about 20–35 ft per bundle) — check the wrapper. Ice-and-water shield, flashing, vents and nails are not included.

How the numbers are worked out

Squares = area × (1 + waste) ÷ 100, rounded up to whole bundles. Starter covers eaves and rakes; cap shingles cover hips and ridges; drip edge runs along eaves and rakes. The full method, with a worked example, is in How many bundles of shingles do I need?

Questions

How many bundles of shingles per square?

Usually 3 bundles for 3-tab and most architectural shingles; some heavyweight designer shingles are 4 or 5. The wrapper states the coverage.

How much waste should I add?

About 5–10% for a simple gable roof, 10–15% for a hip roof and 15–20% or more for roofs with many valleys and dormers. Waste factor guide.

Where do I get the roof area and edge lengths?

Measure from the ground (how to measure a roof), or enter the address on Roofari for area and pitch. The Roofari app report lists eave, rake, hip, ridge and valley lengths.
